Project 1: the brief was to decorate 3 large boxes used for storing books as little libraries to be situated within the school grounds for the community to use. The themes were chosen by the school children. I took elements from the 3 themes; Roald Dahl books, Tom Gates books and Harry Potter books and painted all sides with colourful illustrations. They were then sealed with yacht varnish ready to be kept outdoors.

This large scale mural was commissioned for the entire floor of the Geography department. I asked for all the geography topics from the curriculum and painted images relating to them around the tops of the corridor and stairwell walls of the department. A combination of acrylic and emulsion paints as well as posca pens were used. I went for a bold, funky style to make it feel modern, relevant and interesting to the 11-16 year-old customers!

The brief was to paint characters above the book filled library shelves from the children’s favourite books. I asked for a preference from each of the 6 year groups and painted large scale illustrations their much loved and familiar children’s book characters.
The corridors of KS2 were also enhanced and brightened with a mural. The brief was a map of Shepley so the children could see landmarks and places around their lovely village mapped out on the wall. Another wall was filled with inspirational quotes and quirky illustrations relevant to their age group.
The entrance way to the school, situated by the office was white and drab. I transformed the area with a bright, fun welcome messages and an illustration of the school copied from a drawing by one of the students. The school’s motto is written amongst the illustrations as well as some inspiring adjectives describing children’s thoughts about their school.

I approached the school and asked if I could update the very dated and tired outdoor mural that were currently in the playground’s sheltered play area. I ran a competition asking the children from each year group to draw ‘what you’d like to be when you grow up?’ Our local village doctor decided on one winning entry from each year group.
My idea was to collaborate with each child to draw their winning designs along with the school’s motto of ‘Dream, believe, succeed, achieve’. I copied their drawings onto the walls in their style (too large scale for the children to reproduce) and then invited them to add colour using paints and posca pens. The results were amazing and we all thoroughly enjoyed recreating this mural and being a part of the school’s history for years to come!

The brief was to fill the windows with colourful book characters relating to the children’s favourite books. A very enjoyable project!

The client asked for images, words and motivational quotes to cover a wide range of ages as there are children and youngsters from juniors all the way to A’ level age that use the centre. We discussed topics and characters and I went from there….
More to add to this mural after lockdown…watch this space!!

There were lots of large windows along corridors that needed brightening up and making more fun and interesting for the children! I added scenes and illustrations around both infants and juniors from the books they were reading as part of the curriculum. Lots of fun!
